The focus in America has shifted off this distant disaster back to our own country where many of us are still trying to process the horrific school shooting in Uvalde, as more and more mass shootings continue to occur.
Today begins our exploration in Dr. Derwin Gray’s latest work: “How to Heal Our Racial Divide.” If you read Dr. Gray’s two works we explored this year, you will have heard Dr. Gray’s personal experience with starting a multi-ethnic church. Dr. Gray offers a unique perspective as a former NFL player who found Christ during his early years as a professional athlete. Dr. Gray met Christ: the life-changing, compassion-living, person-loving version of Christ many in America think they know, but most Christians do not live an accurate portrayal of that Christ. Since Dr. Gray met and understood the true calling of Christ, he has spent his life trying to bring others to know the Jesus he knows, the Jesus I have come to know, and the Jesus I hope you, dear reader, grow to know a little better over the next two months.
It is an absolute shame that Dr. Gray had to write this book. The United States of America is really the Divided States of America. But of all the things that divide us, from politics to gun rights, the fact we are still divided because of those who allow racism to live and thrive in this day and age is disturbing. I am hoping that through our exploration of Dr. Gray’s book on healing the racial divide, we can find ways to implement the lessons learned here to heal every divide in America and stop bickering with one another over the important issues and simply focus on living a life that demonstrates each and every day that we love God, and love ALL people as we love ourselves.
