CSR Daily Devotion

Good Afternoon family! I apologize for the after-lunch post. We had a bit of a busy night and I got held over, home late, with the kiddos here for break and did not get a chance to grab a nap until late morning. I was stuck at the hospital for a few hours near two poor souls with serious mental illnesses. I just wish Jesus would come back to set individuals like this free. To think He had the power to put His hands on individuals like this, those tormented for years of mental disabilities, and with just His blessing, He would set their minds free. Both there individuals were very spiritual and talked to God. They probably had more faith than most of the brilliant minded Doctors that work throughout the hospital, which is the greatest tragedy of our time.

But we are going to work on that starting in four days! As I mentioned yesterday, we have some exciting news for everyone that follows this blog. We launched a FaceBook Group, Common Sense Reborn Daily Devotion 2021 Journey, click on the link so we can add you today! This page will be dedicated to allow everyone the opportunity to come together and discuss the daily readings, hopefully opening the grounds for healthy, constructive conversation about the Bible and getting as many different view points as possible over each Book. Mrs. Z and I will be on there to keep you motivated to perform the fitness challenges and to push y’all to get out into the community. And we’re even trying to figure out how to put together a weekly recap video, FaceBook Live event, or whatever we can come up with.

If you are not on the FaceBook, do not worry, I’ll still be posting on here. I can not promise I’ll be posting everyday as I did in 2020, but I’ll do my best. I’ll be reading with y’all and sharing anything new that speaks out to me in this new season.

Back to my top 10 of 2020!

8. Elevation Worship feat. Brandon Lake: Graves into Gardens-the title track to the quintessential album of 2020, Elevation Worship released this single just as the country went into a shutdown. The lyrics to this song carried our family through the storm of COVID craziness America suffered through the spring. Oh, and this music video is one of my favorite live performances ever recorded. It’s a bittersweet reminder of how Church used to look like, and definitely a motivator in the kind of church you should find in 2021. One that dances and sings in pure joy for Jesus.

This song also helped propel Mr. Brandon Lake as a major solo artist. His second album, “House of Miracles” had many amazing tracks, like the one below, which I had to include as a tie for number 8.

7. The Church Will Sing: Make Room-this song will forever bring me back to 2020. I had never really paid attention to this beautiful melody until I was patrolling the streets of Savannah as a recently cut loose rookie and this was a constant track on the Christian radio station I play. Let’s make 2021 the year we make room in our lives and hearts for Jesus to move in and do as He wishes.

December 28

11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it.  The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.  12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.  Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.  14Then death and hades were thrown into the lake of fire.  The lake of fire is the second death.  15Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.  (Revelation 20:11-15)

Here we see the mention of the Book of Life, where you want your name to be written.  But as you see in verse 12, you need more than just your name written in these books.  What you have done “as recorded in the books” is how you will be judged.

Believing in Jesus gets your name on the books, but faith is not the end all to salvation.  Living a righteous and good life will make this moment in your path to eternity one that you will not dread, but one that will be filled with pride and accomplishment.  When you get to heaven, do you want to just squeak in, or do you want God to be waiting for you to show off to the heavenly host, to say, “Here is my daughter, here is my son.  In them I am well pleased.”  Make this next year your most righteous year ever lived.

Prayer and meditation:  We pray that Americans all find full satisfaction in their career paths and shift their focus away from their jobs and onto making the world a better place.

Fitness challenge:  We’re finishing the year with more AMRAPs (As Many Rounds As Possible):  Do a good stretch and then do as many round as possible of the following in 15-minutes:

  1. 10 x Hand-release Push-up
  2. 10 x 4-count flutter kicks
  3. 10 x Wide push-up
  4. 10 x V-up
  5. 5 x Diamond push-up

Run:  Monday-resistance running day. Whatever you used last week, get after it again.  This week, perform 15 sprints with whatever resistance you can come up with, add a one-mile warm-up and TWO-mile cool-down.
