Happy New Music Friday Y’all! The Christian Music scene came strong this week after a lackluster list last Friday. I’ll have plenty of amazing singles to share, a handful of EP’s to highlight, and once I preview it, one of mainstream’s biggest stars has begun his transformation into Christian music. But before all of that, today I am sharing the new experience released by my personal favorite: Mrs. Kari Jobe.

September 18

1Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.  3And God permitting, we will do so.  (Hebrews 6:1-3)

So I chose to highlight these verses because of the continued reference about moving beyond the elementary teachings about Christ.  But the more I read these three verses, the more I realized it was somewhat confusing (for me at least) where the author writes “not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death.”  To understand the verses I had to remove those words and it reads a lot easier to understand:

“Therefore let us move beyond elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.”

This statement makes complete sense:  let’s move our knowledge of Christ, our faith in God, our instructions for Baptisms, our power of healing through touch, our belief in the resurrection of the dead, and the consequences of eternal judgment to a deeper level of understanding.  So back to the words I took out:  “not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death.”  So what does that mean?

Simply stating, do not allow sin and the desires of the flesh to be the foundation of your life.  As Christians we know that sin leads to repentance, which we all deal with as we are becoming more aware of our responsibility as Christ’s workers.  When we are in elementary school and learn what gets us in trouble, if we still like to do it, we keep doing it, just hoping not to get caught.  Well, as Christians, we have to reach a level of maturity to know that we can’t keep returning to sin and building a foundation of our faith on repentance alone.  That’s the difference between an elementary level of faith and a fully mature child of God.  Recognize your sin, seek repentance, then build your foundation on the gift of grace and create a house of righteousness, serving the Lord, not yourself.
