As I mentioned yesterday, one of mainstream’s biggest stars has made good on his intentions to produce Christian music. His first single, Holy, was trending #1 on YouTube yesterday when I watched the video. The song is catchy, but in the video, Mr. Justin Bieber does a great job going after your heart strings. The video’s full of cliches, but it’s still a great effort to tell an American love story and point a wide audience base toward Jesus.
4It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, 5who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6and who have fallen away to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. (Hebrews 6:4-6)
I used to think to myself, that if I had been alive the day Jesus was crucified, I would have stood up for Him. I would have fought for Him. Yet that is a lie, because I still sin, I still allow the grip of this world to keep a hold of me. I preach to stay away from social media and all our distractions, yet the first chance I have a big block of free time, I am right back there, scrolling away as my life passes by. Here the author of Hebrews reminds all of us that know better, that know the weight of sin, and we keep sinning, then we are crucifying Jesus all over again. So not only would I NOT be standing up for the Son of God, I’m the one driving the nails in. Think about that whenever the temptation of the flesh begins to break down your best intentions.
