Yesterday, when my wife was dropping our 9-year-old off at Elementary School, all the teachers were dancing to “Party in the USA.” I’m not sure if our 3-year-old had just never heard that old pop hit, or if it caught his attention after seeing the teachers dancing to it, but either way, all day long he wanted me to play that song. I thought I was going to be stuck listening to Miley Cyrus on repeat all day. But luckily for me, Hillsong Young and Free released a new album on Friday with hip and fun worship songs, so I just mixed that album in with the classic Cyrus hit and he never knew the difference.
It’s so refreshing that I can play worship music our whole family enjoys. I know I have shared a handful of these tracks as Y&F were releasing them as singles leading up to the album release, but here is one of my favorite deep cuts off the record.
15To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. (Titus 1:15)
We are always seeking purity. We want shampoos and conditioners with the “purest” products. We want pure water to drink. “Pure” organics, “pure” ingredients, “pure” barre, and so on and so on. We look for purity in so much that we put into our bodies, but are we doing all we can to make sure that we are “pure?” That is all God wants from us. He wants His children to be “pure.”
Well, lucky for us, the only pure one to ever walk this Earth gave His life because He knew we would always fall short of being pure, but Jesus loved us anyway. But don’t ever use that as an excuse for being corrupt or sinful. Just know that even if you fall short, Jesus will always be there to lift you up. That’s the grace and the glory of Christ.
