CSR Daily Devotion

If you haven’t given Hillsong Young & Free‘s new album a full listen, you are missing out. It’s an easy one to put on track 1 and let it play all the way through until track 20. Their sound is great to drive to, their rhythm is great to run to, and their lyrics are all amazing to listen to. And great music for the whole family. Just like last night, when this song came on and my daughter was singing along to it, it warmed my heart. Listen to the word’s in this song, about how no matter how you are, God will always take you as you are.

2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.

3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent…

6Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled…(Titus 2:2-6)

Paul instructs Pastor Titus on how many different groups of people should act in their congregation:  older men, older women, young men, and slaves.  Paul can preach guidance all he wants, but I can tell you from experience, changing an older person’s behavior is nearly impossible.  But obviously not impossible.  Paul is a prime example of change.  Of course, we all can’t get Jesus to appear before us as Paul did.  Adults are hard to teach.  That is why it is so crucial for us to teach these values to our children, and it is scary that so many families around the world do not teach their children about God and Jesus

To change the behavior of an older adult takes patience and persistence.  And adults are much more critical than children.  If you are telling an older man to show self-control, yet you do not display that quality yourself, do not expect your audience to take you seriously.  So make sure you are following all the characteristics Paul lists in these verses yourself.  Only then should you begin to preach and teach those around you.

Reading plan:  Titus 2:1-10

Deeper reading plan:  Ezekiel 5, 6

Prayer and meditation:  Pray for our country.  Pray for love to conquer all.  Pray for God’s wings of protection to cover all the children returning to school.  Pray that Christ infects our hearts and ignites a final fire of revival to sweep this land.

Fitness challenge:  Day 3-3 reps of the following:

  1. Hand-release Push-up
  2. Sit-up
  3. Jumping squat
  4. Leg lift
  5. Burpees

Distance run day.  We’re going to focus on actual distance instead of time, so go knock out 4 miles.
