Happy #FlashBackFriday Y’all! I want to flash back all the way to this Wednesday, when I shared Pastor Steven Furtick‘s latest masterpiece. I hope you have been able to listen or watch that sermon. The song I shared from We The Kingdom’s album was such a perfect match to the message Pastor Furtick spoke of. But I posted both links and did not dive deep into the message of both. Of course, when you listen, you’ll learn we aren’t diving deep at all, we’re walking on the water.
I think one of the greatest sermon’s I had heard about Jesus calling Peter out of the boat and onto the water was from Pastor Michael Todd’s “Wavy Faith” sermon. Pastor Todd made the wise observation that there were 12 Disciples in the boat, but only Peter had enough faith to step out. Where would you have been? Would you have been awestruck by fear or wonder as Jesus walked up on the sea? Do you believe enough to step out of the boat when Jesus calls you? Why are we still in the boat?! I don’t even care about walking on water anymore. I’m way beyond that. I want to be like We The Kingdom’s lyrics: dancing with Jesus on the waves. What are you afraid of? Get out of the boat and join us. If you start to fall, you know who’s there to catch you.
August 14
8He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might 10on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you. (2 Thessalonians 1:8-10)
Paul wrote this second letter to the church at Thessalonica to help correct some false teachings that the Day of the Lord had already come and the church no longer needed to hold the line, so to say. Some false prophets were claiming that they had missed their mark and there was no need to remain faithful because Jesus had already returned and taken with Him a chosen few. Paul wrote this letter to squash that narrative and give this stern warning to those who did not believe in Paul’s word. So be wise in what you believe and follow. Finish reading the Bible, then you will have a solid base to build your knowledge from, so you will always know when you hear a word that is wrong, or you see the Bible and word of God being manipulated to fit a specific purpose, a purpose that is not from Jesus or God.
Reading plan: 2 Thessalonians 3:11-18
Deeper reading plan: Jeremiah 27, 28
Prayer and meditation: Pray for our country. Pray for love to conquer all. Pray that Christ infects our hearts and ignites a final fire of revival to sweep this land.
