CSR Daily Devotion

Happy Saturday Y’all! Yesterday was a fantastic day for new releases in the Christian music world. I am still riding the wave of jamming tunes from last week’s big release, y’all know who I am talking about by now, and then I hit the New Music Christian playlist on Spotify yesterday, and wow. Kicking this week off is the soulful, powerful voice of Bethel great, Dante Bowe, who is beginning to launch his solo career. I love the rhythm, but more importantly, are the lyrics of this song.

August 15

9The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works.  He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, 10and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.  They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.  11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.  (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12)

I felt the strong need to highlight these verses due to all the turmoil that engulfed the United States during 2020.  Especially with the initial verse stating the “coming of the lawless one” and all the talk about shutting down police agencies and rewriting law and order across the nation.  I suppose we have easily forgotten what the “Wild West” was like.  I wonder if during that age the preachers and pastors of that era spoke of the lawless one.  Or even at the birth of our country and the period of lawlessness that ruled the wild American frontier.  The point is, what we are seeing in 2020 is nothing new, it’s just surprising to see that we took such a strong step in the wrong direction.

But moving further into this passage, we read how satan will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve satan’s lies.  To me that’s alarming to read.  I don’t want to think satan is capable of performing signs and wonders.  I thought that was only a God/Jesus power.  So if satan is able to display his power through signs and wonders, maybe all this chaos, all this disease and hurt is not God at all.  Maybe this whole time it’s been the devil’s work to tear us apart from God, to make us question God’s grace and mercy, and to put doubt in our hearts?  I believe that God is the creator of everything, even disasters and disease, because I hold true to the fact that nothing on this Earth is so horrible that we should ever separate ourselves from the love of Jesus.  I guess we will only know for sure on that Day of the Lord, and that day can’t come soon enough!
