Happy Tuesday! I randomly discovered a new young Christian Group yesterday driving home and letting the New Music Christian playlist play deep into the set. The songs I will share Wednesday and Thursday are really fun, energetic, and great worship music for the young, young generation. But to warm y’all up to this group, I love this song below, it’s one for any generation.
August 4
3It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; 6and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. 7For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8)
Our world has gone through waves and waves of sexual immorality. In the Roman era, when Jesus walked the Earth, the Romans were known for their orgies and sexual exploration between all sexes. Prostitution is know as the world’s oldest profession. We have seen in America waves of sexual exploration, the “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll” of the 1960s faded to quieter patterns of sexual immorality. Then pornography swept across the nation and around the world and this original sin was available for anyone to watch. The internet just made it worse. Now we live in the “swipe right” generation, where sexual relationships are akin to a first date. The intimacy and romance of sexual intercourse is gone. As Paul presses on the church of Thessalonica, we need to learn to control our body in a way that is holy and honorable. Holy and honorable. That means placing value upon your body, keeping the intimacy of sexual relationships sacred and special, and respecting those that uphold these values in their day-to-day life. There are many forms of sexual immorality in the world. This is just how we operate as a culture, through our current relationships. We need to refocus our commitment on being made pure and whole. Because there is a whole other, much darker side of sexual evils that exist in this world. Those sins need our eradication, our focus, our collective efforts to end now.
