In a way I quite understand why some people are put off by Theology. I remember once when I had been giving a talk to the R.A.F., an old, hard-bitten officer got up and said, ‘I’ve no use for all that stuff. But, mind you, I’m a religious man too. I know there’s a God. I’ve felt Him: out alone in the desert at night: the tremendous mystery. And that’s just why I don’t believe all your neat little dogmas and formulas about Him. To anyone who’s met the real thing they all seem so petty and pedantic and unreal!’ (C.S. Lewis, “Mere Christianity” pg 153)
Happy Thanksgiving friends and family! If any of you are traveling today, I pray the hand of God is on you to keep you safe. I pray you all have a wonderful day with family and friends.
I was going to gush about all I have to be thankful for, but sometimes that can be tacky, as many are not as fortunate as we are. There is not a single aspect of my life that I am not thankful for. I am truly thankful that God continued to love me and watch over me when I was a wayward soul, working for the world, and lost in my own convictions. God sent me a beautiful angel to rescue me, the lovely Mrs. Z, who has stuck by me through thick and thin and helped us build this amazing life we celebrate together. I am thankful for the love and grace of Jesus Christ and for the creator of this wonderful world we live in.
I am thankful for all of you that follow this blog. I hope you are enjoying the excerpts from C.S. Lewis classic work “Mere Christianity”. I really like what he wrote above about the difference between Theology (the science of God) and having a real relationship with Jesus, as pointed out by the “old, hard-bitten officer” of the Royal Air Force. I have encountered that “tremendous mystery” in the wilderness. I have seen the wonder, working miracle of God and I will praise His glory until the end of my time on this side of eternity.
When I post on here next, all my energy will be in the celebration of Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ. If you want to see a glimpse of the Jesus I know, you should watch The Chosen, which now has Season 1 streaming on Netflix. Come and See what all the fuss is about. It is an incredible series and it will show you what it is like getting used to different.
