Happy Friday Y’all! I’m super late in the week posting this, but why not go into this weekend with an incredible word from Pastor Steven Furtick. And even better, here is Zach Williams covering Elevation’s masterpiece from 2020: RATTLE!!
“Why don’t you act like where you come from?”
So act like you come from GOD! You son. You daughter of the KING!!
16This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:16-18)
John has a way with writing some world changing verses that always coincide with the magic numbers 3:16. His Gospel has perhaps the most famous line of scripture in verse 16 of chapter 3. And here we read another gem, which really continues upon John’s original 3:16, that since Jesus laid His life down for us, we ought to do the same for our brothers and sisters. John continues in the paragraph and sounds a little like James at the end, when he states that words are not enough to show compassion to those hurting around us, but we need to love with action and “in truth.” In truth means that if you truly want to help those afflicted, then you will help those afflicted. Just saying you feel sorry for those hurt, or offer empty prayers is not truthful love. Lay down your life for others and stop living a life just consumed with yourself.
