CSR Daily Devotion

Happy Tuesday Friends! While I feel I could easily just share song after song of Kari Jobe‘s new album, there was a handful of great new music out last week. So today I want to share Richlin‘s newest single. Richlin dropped a fun EP that has two covers each of their previous break out tracks: Love Like Thunder; Jesus, You’re the Wine; and Royal Blood. He added this last track be the odd single out. I love Richlin’s truly unique sound and the energetic beats that make this a great album to put on repeat.

8Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.  9Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult.  On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.  (1 Peter 3:8, 9)

When I was writing this devotional, my daughter came home from the book fair with a handful of ghost novels because she had taken a sudden interest in the afterlife.  One of the books she had was a “real life disaster” book about hauntings in the United States, and a few stories abroad.  Many of the domestic hauntings came from the turn of the century, where there was a horrific factory fire in NYC that claimed over two hundred lives, an avalanche in Spokane Washington that claimed 96 lives from a trapped commuter train.  A series of 34 monstrous tornadoes in the deep south.  I wonder if the pastors and preachers of that time realized that God was punishing them for the errors of their ways.  Racism was still rampant, the roaring 20’s was about to hit and be the peak of social disparity between wealthy and poor for American history.  The same Bible we read today has been read for hundreds of years.  The verses above have been available for the world and America for ages, yet we cannot understand the simple fact that Jesus urged us to love one another above all.  Paul understood it.  The author of Hebrews got it.  James knew this truth.  And now we see that Peter urges his audience to love one another, be compassionate and humble.  It’s that simple folks.  If your agenda, if your platform, if whatever you are trying to lift up is not loving others with humble compassion, you are not on the same side as Christ.  The line in the sand has been drawn.  What side are you standing on?
