Today I share the last new song from last week. I can’t really put in words how perfect and accurate this track from TobyMac is. “I’m Sorry” is something we all need to be saying, as Mr. Mac points out in every lyric of this album.
1My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. 2Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” 4have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? (James 2:1-4)
Interesting fact about this Epistle from James, this is the only point of this whole letter that James mentions the name of Jesus. We just looked at eight days of amazing Biblical teachings, and they all referenced God, but taught more truth from a Christian perspective. James was a leader in the Jewish church. He grew up the little brother of Jesus, both learning the Old Testament so thoroughly that Jesus could argue with synagogue leaders at the age of 12, and James was so versed he became the leader of the synagogue in Jerusalem and turned his congregation toward Christ. Here he highlighted the responsibility of Christians to not discriminate between rich and poor, for all can earn a place in God’s Kingdom.
Reading plan: James 5:1-6
Deeper reading plan: Hosea 9
Prayer and meditation: Pray for our country. Pray for love to conquer all. Pray for peace and common sense to infect the minds of Americans. Pray for civility and calm and for Christians to be a beacon of hope and consistency for all those who may face increased anxiety in this coming month. Pray for revival that is permanent and world changing.
