Yesterday I mourned the untimely and unexpected loss of one of our cultures most iconic figures, Chadwick Boseman. I was not alone in feeling shocked and sorrowful, and many were sharing beautiful words, memories, and videos of Mr. Boseman. The most important that I came across, was when Mr. Boseman delivered the commencement speech in 2018 (while battling colon cancer) during Howard University’s 150 year graduation ceremony. This brave man chose to use this stage to praise and lift up God, using an enormous stage to speak about what is truly important in this life. When you get the opportunity, are you using the stage God provides to glorify His name? Mr. Boseman did, and because of that, I know he is walking on streets of gold, fully healed and finally home.
I want to share another great song off Brandon Lake’s latest solo project. This is the title track to the album, House of Miracles. I love this video because he features his family: his wife and two children. For all you parents out there with young children, I hope you fully appreciate the house of miracles God has provided you. Every child, every life is a miracle of God. They are a lot of work, and can drive you absolutely crazy sometimes, but it is up to you to raise them to be great Jesus-loving, God respecting children, teenagers, and eventually grown adults who use every opportunity they have to lift up and glorify their Creator and their Savior.
2Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction. 3For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. (2 Timothy 4:2-5)
The Word of God can be manipulated to fit a specific agenda. “Christians” can switch the Word around to make it seem that a sin they are committing (divorce) is not so bad, or to help themselves feel less guilty when doing something they shouldn’t. Kind of like what the serpent did in the Garden of Eden, flipping God’s Words around to fit his agenda of leading Eve to disobey God. Satan is still at work today doing the exact thing to us. That is why it is so important to not only know the word of God, but live it out. If we are suited with the armor of God it will be harder for satan to attack us. We will be prepared and ready to block his attempts. It will also be easier for us to exercise self control when temptation rears its ugly head. The devil stands no chance against those who are truly living by God’s word. Make sure the pastors you’re listening to and learning from are preaching God’s true word and not manipulating the word to fit what they want to teach. This situation is easier to spot when you’ve read the Bible or at least have read the chapters they’re pulling their verses from. It’s not hard to take a verse and use it out of context but if you not only know the verse, but the verses before and after it, you will never fall victim to false teaching.
