15Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strives to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. (1 Thessalonians 5:15)
This is a simple verse to help remind us how to live a more Christ-centered life. Do not pay back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for one another and everyone involved. Just another reminder, this goes against everything the Old Testament taught. The Old Testament instructed an eye-for-an-eye, tooth-for-a-tooth. Sins were punished by stonings, eating certain foods were an abomination. Then Jesus came to Earth and pushed all that aside, teaching us to repay wrongs with rights. So what are some practical ways to not repay a wrong with another wrong, to not seek revenge when someone hurts you? The first is to pray for them and pray for you. Pray for guidance, patience and grace. Depending on the severity of the wrong, taking the time to pray and reflect on the situation may be all you need to realize what had happened is not that big of a deal after all. Of course, if it is a serious wrong against you that constitutes a crime, that is why we have a legal system in place to protect others. And once you involve the proper authorities to help keep others from being in the same situation, go back to step one and pray, pray, pray. Offer your grace, wisdom and love, and help those that do wrongs reach your level of faith and understanding.
