CSR Daily Devotion

Today I am sharing my favorite new single from last week. Hillsong Young and Free’s new track is a great anthem, and a perfect reminder in this shelter-at-home season. There’s a world outside your window, don’t let it pass you by. Get out, get a mask on, and live!

July 16

29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.  30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.  (Ephesians 4:29-32)

The advice keeps flowing from Paul in today’s verses.  Even more great guidance on how we should live as Christians:

  1. Don’t let any “unwholesome talk” come out of our mouths.  Only speak what is helpful in building up others.
  2. Get rid of all bitterness.
  3. Get rid of rage and anger.
  4. Get rid of brawling and slander.
  5. Get rid of every form of malice.
  6. Be kind and compassionate to one another.
  7. Forgive one another, just as Christ forgave you.

We’ve missed the mark this first half of 2020.  Let’s live out these seven values for the rest of this year, and for every year that comes from this moment forward.

Reading plan:  Ephesians 6:1-9

Deeper reading plan:  Isaiah 25, 26, 27

Prayer and meditation:  Pray for our country.  Pray for love to conquer all.  Pray that Christ infects our hearts and ignites a final fire of revival to sweep this land.

Fitness challenge:  Distance run day.  Run as far and as long as you want, but make sure you are out there pounding pavement for at least 30 minutes.
