CSR Daily Devotion

I wanted to share a new song from Bethel great, Cory Asbury, called Sparrows. These lyrics are a great reminder of how God always provides.

July 15

25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.  26“In your anger do not sin”:  Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold.  28Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.  (Ephesians 4:25-28)

In Chapter 4 of Ephesians, Paul is giving the church wisdom on how to live a proper life for Christ.  Here he gives the world three great nuggets of truth:

  1.  Do not lie to your neighbor.  We are all members of one body.
  2. Do not let the sun go down while you are angry.  This gives the devil a foothold and allows you to wake up and sour the following day.
  3. Do not steal from one another, or in general.  Instead, put your hands to work, doing “something useful.”

Of these three, the last is my favorite.  Get to work.  Do something useful with your hands.  And what I love the most about this, Paul doesn’t tell us to get to work because it’s the right thing to do to be able to support ourselves.  No, Paul, tells us to get to work so that we “may have something to share with those in need.”  Let’s get to work America, the harvest is plentiful, but Jesus has been waiting for His workers to come to reap this harvest for a long time.  The wait needs to be over.
