14Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, growns and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. (Ephesians 4:14-16)
Here Paul relates to the “body” of Christ’s church, a church that Paul was urging to move quickly out of their infancy stage and into a mature state, standing firm in their understanding of the truth of Christianity. Oh how Paul must be frustrated with the world over the last two thousand years. Only recently does it seem like the Christian church is finally “getting it.” Just look at America, the great”Christian” nation, that treated everyone that was not from English descent horribly. We killed the native people, enslaved millions, persecuted billions during the infancy of our country. Only in 2020 are we finally saying we screwed up in the past. And by acknowledging our failings, we are finally beginning to show we are a mature country.
Now the body of Christ needs to be the leaders of this change. And older generations can not claim the success of our country, because it was their generations that pushed back against racial inequality and social justice. Now that Generation X and younger have taken control, only now are we seeing American, and Christianity, finally acting with the ultimate truth that we are all equal, all equal creations of the one true God.
