I have been sharing songs from one of my favorite Christian bands, Sidewalk Prophets, since their new album dropped last Friday. Today I am wrapping up my focus on this amazing collection of catchy melodies. This song is my absolute favorite, and I’ve had it on repeat for the last 10 days.
1As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3)
Paul urges the Ephesians church to “live a life worthy of the calling” they have received. Here I wonder if Paul is referring to their calling as the original Christian church of Ephesus? Or is Paul referring to each individual and their worth as a Christian, saved by grace, loved, and cherished? Or is Paul referring to a person’s “calling” as to what they do in life? As I have stated before, our most important “calling” is recognizing we are children of God, and we need to live a life worthy of that birthright. No matter what career you find yourself in, you should live a life WORTHY of your calling as a Christian child of God. Love God, love creation, and love others as Christ loves us. And be humble about it. Be patient, even in a world where it is go, go, go, be patient with one another. Be compassionate. Let love in. Let love win.
If you have not caught onto the recurring themes of Paul’s letters yet, you will. There’s a reason Paul states these simple truths over and over, because they are the ONLY truths we need to focus on. There is such focus on who “matters” in this world, well live a life worthy of your calling as a child of God and your life will always “matter.”
