Common Sense REBORN Deviotional

June 15

22The stone the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone;

23the Lord has done this,

and it is marvelous in our eyes.

24The Lord has done it this very day;

let us rejoice today and be glad.  (Psalm 118:22-24)

Good morning friends!  It’s been over a week since I got on here.  I hope you are doing well.  I’ve had an extremely busy summer, not doing anything, but keeping up with the kids has kept me away from here.  I was just pondering how I was able to do this last year, posting something every day, and I can not remember how I did it.  I know I was not reading as much in the Bible, so that might have been the difference.  But, any way, I got up as early as I could.  Actually, let me rewind even more:  I went to bed as early as I could, then got up an hour earlier than normal, still giving myself a full night’s rest.  Which gave me a chance to try to get caught up in my Old Testament reading, and then write something quick to reach out to y’all.  I say all of this to let you know that I realize for you to get through the Bible in one year takes sacrifice.  I have quit all wasteful forms of media, but have allowed social media to creep back in and steal away more minutes of my day, so if I could get away from my phone, I would have even more time for God.  Putting God first in your day is always worth it.  I feel so much better, spiritually and mentally, when I start my day off with prayer and reading the Word, even if it is for just thirty minutes in a day.  The reading plans in the Common Sense Reborn Daily Devotional can easily be accomplished setting aside one hour each day.  One hour a day to focus on God and His teachings.  I still believe, deep down in my soul, if America could finally accomplish this, we would solve many of our most pressing issues.

But I know you are busy, and to not keep you away from your readings any longer, I will finish this by pointing out the verses above.  Psalm 118 is my favorite psalm, and I love those lines I highlighted today, which reference the cornerstone of our faith as Christians, as Jesus is prophesied about hundreds of years before His arrival on Earth.  Verse 23 is a verse that I have seen many times, as it was on a marquis for a predominantly African-American church for the last year in an area I patrol.  “The Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”  Look at all America has been through in the last year, when you see it through the lens of God, you can not help but marvel and rejoice.  Even in the struggle, the chaos, the loss, the sorrow, God is there through it all.  Let’s draw near to Him and let God restore our peace, prosperity, and allow us to rebuild our nation using the right cornerstone to build a house the Lord will be proud of.

Today I am sharing my favorite single that was released on last Friday’s big release day.  A handful of Christian music’s biggest players released new singles, which was bold because they chose the same week that Crowder released his newest album, which I will be sharing music from tomorrow.  That Milk & Honey album is a straight banger (as the young kids say) and I had it on repeat for the entire weekend.  But when I circled back and gave the rest of the music world a listen, the single below stood out as my favorite of the week.

Reading plan:  Romans 15, 16

Deeper reading plan: Psalms 120-126
