38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. (Acts 2:38-41)
*The following is from the print version of the CSR Daily Devotional for 2021. I have not had time to dig into the Old Testament for May. I’ll get y’all some fresh material tomorrow.
You know what day today is! We have studied passages from every book this year that all say the same thing: get baptized! If you have already heeded my advice, I applaud you, let me know on the website. But if you still haven’t decided to get baptized, what are you waiting for?! Here, again, we see the importance of this spiritual act of public declaration that you are accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior of your life. Get out and get washed clean in the water. As you read in Acts 2, at the end of Peter’s speech at Pentecost, almost three thousand Jewish followers were baptized by the Apostles that day and proclaimed their belief in Jesus Christ. Just like that, the Christian Church grew 30 fold. From just over one hundred and thirty to an added 3,000 members in one day. That’s the power of the Holy Spirit at work. But the Holy Spirit did not do this alone. It took a human element, and that was in the form of Peter, standing up as the leader among the Apostles and giving a stirring speech alluding to prophecies of old and the promise of the new. The Holy Spirit still needs that human element to work and help spread the life changing miracle that is following Jesus Christ.
Family. Friday was a monstrous day for New Music in the Christian Genre. We had a worship EP from the amazing vocals of Koryn Hawthorne; full album releases from Lincoln Brewster, Joseph Habedank, MercyMe, and the incredible collaboration of many of Christian Musics greatest female talent in the album “FAITHFUL: Go and Speak.” Ladies, that album is definitely one you have to put on your playlist! Then there’s a few dozen hot singles out that I still have not even been able to re-listen too. And that is because my que is stuck on repeat and I’m simply astonished at the talent, passion, and lyrics that Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music captured on their historic collaboration called “Old Church Basement.” I say historic because this album is shattering Christian records. It’s currently sitting at number 2 for iTunes top Album Chart in ALL OF MUSIC. I’ll be sharing three of my favorites in the next three days as I will have time to post on here. If you want to dive in and just watch the experience of almost half of Old Church Basement being recorded, click here. But below is the title track off the album, which PREMIERS today at 3 PM EST. Enjoy and may you all have a blessed week!
