CSR Daily Devotion

I apologize for the late post last night. I’m back on schedule today and will hopefully keep these rolling out in the early morning for at least the next few weeks. So I shared the official music video for Casting Crown‘s “Start Right Here” song. That amazing track came out originally on their “Only Jesus” album, which is my favorite CC album to date. This song, “Start Right Here,” was my anthem going into the end of 2018. It was part of the motivation for me to volunteer to finally go on a deployment. It was the soundtrack for me leaving a comfortable career to a field where I feel more compassionate, caring people need to work. And that song was part of the driving force to motivate me to finish my last book, Common Sense Reborn, and try to push it out to the masses. It’s such an important song, I am sharing it again today. I hope you watch the video in it’s entirety and take to heart the words they are singing. We need to be the change this country desperately needs. It has to start right here. It has to start right now.

5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:  sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.  6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.  7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.  8But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these:  anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.  9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.  11Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.  (Colossians 3:5-11)

I wanted us to read this entire paragraph because of all the actions Paul instructs us to avoid as Christians.  We’ve covered all of this before, but here is another reminder of what is off limits:

sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed, idolatry, anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language (my wife makes sure to point that one out) and lying.

That’s quite a list.  Especially the second part of it, not being angry, abstaining from talking bad about others, and not using offensive language.  Seems almost impossible.  But, of course, if being a Christian was easy, then everyone would be doing it.  Well, it is a lot easier than we make it, it just takes constant effort, but you can change your ways and clean up your act.

And lastly I want to point out what the end of this verse states:  Christ is ALL, and is in ALL.  Christ sees no color, no race, no nation, no ethnicity, no sex, nothing.  We are all children of God to Jesus, and thus, He sees us all as His brothers and sisters.  Start acting like Jesus is your older brother, like you are from the royal bloodline God destined you to be.
