CSR Daily Devotion

Well, this week flew by for me. I meant to write a lot more commentary but I found myself spending some much needed time reconnecting with my wife. This was the first week we have not had our kids with us in nine years. It was a break both us as adults and our kids needed. They seem to be having an absolute blast staying the week with cousins. My son finally had a boy much closer to his age to play with, and my daughter was with one of her favorite cousins. Just a word of warning, these devotions will probably get all mushy in the next few days. On Sunday we celebrate our daughter turning 9. We kicked off the celebration by filling her room with almost 500 balloons, streamers and “Happy Birthday” signs. I said almost 500 because I lost count of how many popped on me as I was blowing them up. But they were dollar store balloons, so, it can be expected. I hope y’all had a great week. Next week, I’ll get back on topic and we’ll discuss the madness going on across America right now. Just remember, everything meant for evil, God will turn to good.

This new song by Branan Murphy was one of my favorite sleeper hits from last week.

It’s New Music Friday already and there is a truck load of amazing singles released today, and I barely got through last week’s list of amazing songs. The track above is the last I’ll share from the 17th’s releases. But worth note is the new cut from Lecrae: “Drown.” Chris Tomlin, Kim Walker-Smith, Planetshakers, For All Seasons, Seventh Day Slumber, all released great singles from last week. Click any of the artists above to hear their newest work of worship!

14Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.  (Philippians 2:14-15)

Who would have thought that the advice the Apostle Paul gave nearly two-thousand years ago would still be relevant today.  And not just relevant, but almost more important for us to understand now than ever before.  Just like we saw yesterday, spot-on correction from Paul on how we need to improve our lives as Americans:  Do everything without grumbling or arguing.  I know that in my life, in every career I have ever worked in, I always had a handful, or more, of co-workers that just had to complain about everything.  And I always said:  “just do your job.”  You’re paid to do a job, not paid to stand around and do nothing.

Well, I hate to break it to you.  But the payment we as Christians, that eternal reward we put all our faith into, that is not going to come to us if we are “just standing around not doing our jobs.”  We’ve got mouths to feed, sick to heal, broken to fix, and the lost to love.  We need to keep our hands busy, and do so cheerfully. It is who we are supposed to be as Christians. So look at what you are sharing or spreading on social media. If it is not all joy and love, then you are not part of the solution. Become blameless and pure. Children of God in this warped and crooked generation.

Reading plan:  Philippians 3:15-21

Deeper reading plan:  Isaiah 49, 50, 51

Prayer and meditation:  Pray for our country.  Pray for love to conquer all.  Pray that Christ infects our hearts and ignites a final fire of revival to sweep this land.

Fitness challenge:  Free for all Friday-4 exercises at descending intervals (you’ll need a watch for this).  We’ve done upper body, lower body, and abs.  Today, we’ll do total body.  For each exercise you will do six sets, each set is one minute.  First set is a minute of straight work (do as many as you can), second set starts with 10 seconds rest, followed by 50 seconds of work.  Next set is 20 second rest, 40 seconds of work.  (Each set is 1-minute with your rest sets growing by 10 seconds until your last set is 50 seconds of rest and 10 seconds of pounding out reps).

  1.  Jumping squats
  2. Hand-release push-ups
  3. Cross-punch sit-ups
  4. Burpees
