CSR Daily Devotion

We continue to ask for prayers and the peace that passes understanding for our brother in faith who has experienced unimaginable loss. Last night I spent several hours with the tranquility of a roaring fire and a light drizzle late into this morning. I love a good bonfire, and the unexpected rain that covered south Georgia was a fitting compliment to the current atmosphere around my family and friends. We have lost a bright light on this side of existence. But heaven has gained a wonderful angel, who will be bringing her bright smile and joyful spirit home to the place she has always belonged.

18Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people.  19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

20The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase.  But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  (Romans 5:18-21)

When I read the Book of Romans for the first time, it was immediately clear why Jesus chose Paul to be the backbone of the Christian church.  He has a way with words that is unmatched throughout the rest of the Holy Bible.  In the verses above, Paul writes how the one act of Adam’s disobedience brought condemnation for all people.  But through Jesus, the single, greatest act of obedience by going to the cross brought grace for all mankind.  Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice brought a grace that never ends, it crashes upon us all, wave after endless wave.  Sin held death captive, but Jesus came and showed the way to defeat death and build a relationship with God.

Grace was given as a gift, and it is available to everyone.  It does not need to be earned, but it can be lost.  It takes more than just believing in Jesus and claiming to be a Christian to maintain your place in eternity.  It takes living a good life, sharing the Gospel, and growing the church.  You don’t have to be a preacher to preach, you just have to show the world the true representation of Jesus’ love.
