…54This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee. (John 4:48-54)
I wanted to include these verses in our study of the Book of John because this Gospel is what I call the Miracle Gospel. John saw Jesus perform more miracles than any of the other disciples, and he is the only first hand narrative included in the New Testament Canon written by one of Jesus’ squad. John records this as the second “sign” or miracle Jesus performed in His three-year ministry tour. But this is really the first miracle that shows the true power of the Son of God. This is no water into wine, keep the guests happy miracle. This is Jesus flexing His God muscles and healing a boy that was in a completely different town. But what I like most about this passage is how it starts from Jesus: “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.”
How many more signs and wonders do we need to see before the world comes to know Jesus? We are not walking with Jesus, we are distracted, our priorities are backwards, our egos consume our lives, we’ve let technology consume our souls. The signs and wonders have always been here, they are happening every single day. We have witnessed it in this world-wide crisis, yet did the faith of the world grow? How many believing hearts came to Jesus? How many turned away and blamed Jesus and God for all that happened in the COVID outbreak? For us that have believed and always believed, we would have thought that the events of this year would have been all the world needed to finally come to Christ, but it wasn’t. We still have a lot of work to do. But this was the opportunity we needed to correctly reach millions in the world. Just like as the Disciples were coming to realize in the days after Jesus appeared to them, our job has just begun. You’ve spent your whole life getting to know Jesus, now is the time to get out and share that love with the world. Lift up the name of Jesus and show the world the accurate depiction of the grace and love of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Prayer and meditation: Pray for the sick, pray for the lost and their loved ones. Pray for redemption for this lost world. Pray for a reviving rattle to shake COVID off this planet. And continue to pray for all those in medical professions, grocery stores, supply chain operators, first responders, and the amazing teachers still doing all they can to teach the students they love so much.
