Happy Monday friends. It’s a new week, let’s change the world!
A few days ago I mentioned that one of my favorite Christian Musicians released an album that I was not aware was scheduled to premiere. I was excited, but a little let down when I listened to it, and realized (much like the new Passion album) there were only two new songs. Matt Maher’s new album is a live recording from one stop on his tour, so besides the two songs I will share with you in the next two days, it’s many of his most popular tracks. If you are not familiar with Mr. Maher, this is an excellent album to listen to and hear his powerful, soulful anthems. The song below has become part of my morning commute playlist since it came out a few months ago. It’s a great reminder of all we have to be thankful for, and the simplest reasons to praise the Lord.
33The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. 34Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.” (Luke 2:33-35)
Luke is the only author to mention Jesus as a child. The other Gospels lead right into Jesus at the start of His ministry. But here in Luke, we get a glimpse of Jesus as a child, a time of His life here on Earth that remains a mystery to many. There, of course, is a lot of research into those mysterious years before Jesus began the ministry that would change the world. I like to talk to my daughter about the kind of child Jesus was because I want her to live more like Jesus, and less like the world. So one thing my wife and I stress is that our daughter knows the stories of the Bible and the word’s Jesus spoke in His ministry. My wife does an amazing job with our two kids every night at bed time to do a daily devotion with our daughter and son. While we do not know specifics about Jesus’ life as a child, you can be sure that Mary and Joseph spent every night with Jesus and his brothers and sisters talking about the stories in the Old Testament. Joseph was a carpenter, so he provided for his family and was probably able to send Jesus to a Jewish school in Galilee.
The point of all this is simple: bring your children up knowing the Bible and knowing Jesus. But to do that, you need to fully understand the love and passion that is Jesus yourself, and continue to read the Bible.
