Worship Wednesday my friends! No extra sermon today. I just urge everyone to watch Compassion Christians message from this past weekend, which you can access from their Facebook page or the website I shared yesterday. I’ll just get right into the devotion. I hope y’all have a blessed day and are having an amazing week.
63He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote, “His name is John.” 64Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God. (Luke 1:63-64)
If you recall earlier in Luke Chapter 1, Zechariah was visited by the angel Gabriel and when the angel told Zechariah that Elizabeth would bear them a son, whose name would be John, Zechariah questioned the angel. Because he questioned Gabriel, Zechariah’s mouth was bound and he was unable to speak until the time came when his son was born.
As a believer in Christ, you like to think you are more like Elizabeth and Mary than Zechariah and Joseph. For the men, there’s always a bit of skepticism, despite the Angel Gabriel appearing before them. Zechariah questioned the Angel to the point that Gabriel shut his mouth until after his son was born. Even today we think that surely if an angel appeared to me, I would joyfully comply with whatever was asked of me. But very few of us are actually visited by Heavenly figures anymore. Why is that? Well, for one, if angels were as apparent as they were in the Old Testament days of the prophets, it would be a lot easier to convert the non-believers. But that is what makes faith so wonderful, believing in the unseen. Believing even when you cannot feel God in your life every single day. Believing because you do not need Angels to appear to you to tell you how to live a righteous life. You have a book that tells you EXACTLY how to do that. None of the figures of the Bible had Bibles to read every day. They worked on faith alone. You have the greatest book of instruction/wisdom known to man available at your finger tips everyday. Spend time in the Word each and everyday, so that when your angels visit you, you’ll know and obediently follow.
