Common Sense Reborn Daily Devotion

January 26

34Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.  35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:  36”Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”

37Jesus replied:  “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  38This is the first and greatest commandment.  39And the second is like it:  ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”  40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”  (Matthew 22:34-40)

I hope you have read my short novella Common Sense Reborn.  If you have, then you know how I feel about the passage above.  I believe the instruction from Jesus in these verses not only sums up the entire Holy Bible, but also is the foundation of the Christian faith.  Not even the foundation, but the foundation, the framing, the roof, the drywall, pretty much everything that goes into being a Christian.  I pray that this is your focus for 2020.  How can I live a life that shows God how much I love Him and how can I serve people to show how I love as Jesus loved?  As Jesus states, everything hangs on these two processes.  All the Laws and all the commandments.  If we could just love God with all our being, and love people as we love ourselves, these two make all the other laws and commandments obsolete.

This is your fourth Sunday in 2020.  I pray you are in a place in your life that you are attending church, or watching a church regularly in some format.  There’s no better way to spend a Sunday than in worship, followed by meaningful fellowship.  Love God.  Love People.
