Common Sense Reborn Daily Devotion

Worship, worship, worship. Sunday’s are the day to worship our Creator and our only true King. Today would also be a good day to watch the video below. This video is long, but every minute of hearing these amazing men speak is life changing.

January 19

5When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread.  6”Be careful,” Jesus said to them.  “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

7They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”  (Matthew 16:5-7)

Did the passage above stand out to you in your reading yesterday?  It did to me the last time I read through the New Testament.  I jotted down on the side of the page how impressed I was that Jesus chose everyday guys to be His first disciples.  They struggle throughout His ministry to understand His parables and teachings.  Yet, despite always having to explain Himself, Jesus never gives up on any of them.  He even knew Judas would betray Him and Jesus never kicked Judas out of their squad!

Never think that you are not worthwhile in the eyes of Jesus.  God created you for a specific purpose.  You are loved and cherished more than you could ever imagine.  I pray that you never feel like you are not smart enough, or have anything unique to offer, because you are brilliant and you have worth.  The disciples were walking and working with Jesus and they rarely understood everything He was telling them.  He had to break it down to the basic levels.  But what the disciples might have lacked in knowledge, they made up in their faith and commitment to Jesus.

Tomorrow America celebrates a special disciple of Christ: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  He was a man who truly understood the love of Jesus when he lived in a country where he was surrounded by others who did not understand his devotion to peace and love.  For today’s day of rest and worship, in the next page jot down what you know about the preaching and teaching of the honorable Dr. MLK.

Reading plan:  Matthew Chapter 17

Deeper reading plan:  add on Exodus Chapters 31-37

Prayer and meditation:  continue to pray for your request from day 1 and ask God to help you love as Dr. MLK loved.

Fitness challenge:  Rest/Worship/Spend time with God
