Common Sense Reborn Daily Devotional Preview

January 3

16As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.  At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.  17And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased.”(Matthew 3:16-17)

Jesus is who He says He is.  In this famous passage, the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth confirms Jesus is the Son of God and proclaims His love and approval.  Words we all long to hear from a parent, especially our fathers.  But perhaps you did not have a good, healthy relationship with your earthly Father.  For that, I am very sorry.  I wish every child on this Earth had a father that instinctively and easily loved and adored them.  You do have a Heavenly Father that thinks the world of you.  You are a Child of God.  We are all Sons and Daughters of the Great I Am, adopted into His family.  God created you with purpose and for a purpose.  Never forget that fact and always know that you are loved beyond measure by the same one who created the stars and the heavens and our beautiful planet.

I will never forget the sermon of our local church when we moved back to the Savannah area for the last time.  Our lead pastor said that when he got to Heaven, he wanted to live a life that God would grab hold of him and say to the Heavenly congregation:  “This is my Son; look at all he did in his time on Earth.  I am so proud of him.”  Wow, what a thought.  To not just seek God’s love and approval, but to seek a life worthy enough to earn praise from God.  Make this year the year you go all in on God and live for His Son, Jesus Christ.  Live everyday full of compassion and peace.  Make everyday a day that glorifies God, where you easily seal your place in Heaven and you know when your time on Earth is done, God can’t wait to praise you in His house.
