Daniel, Part 10

5I looked up and saw a man dressed in linen clothing, with a belt of pure gold around his waist. 6His body looked like a precious gem. His face flashed like lightning, and his eyes flamed like torches. His arms and feet shone like polished bronze, and his voice roared like a vast multitude of people. (Daniel 10:5-6)

Chapter 10 of the Book of Daniel begins the final vision the prophet records in his prophecy. This final vision spans the last three chapters and many of the events revealed to Daniel would come to pass hundreds of years later. This vision begins with the description of a heavenly being who appears to deliver this message. There is some debate over who this being is, with most agreeing that he is either Gabriel or Jesus. I fully believe it is Jesus. Daniel had described the angel Gabriel as delivering his first two visions, so at the point, Daniel would have known it was Gabriel. And this article shows the striking comparison between Daniel’s description of an unnamed “man” and John’s description of Jesus in the Book of Revelation. They are identical. Daniel would not have known the name of Jesus because Jesus was still over five-hundred years away from making His earthly appearance and being given the name of Jesus by His Heavenly Father.

This post will wrap up our study of Daniel. From the fourth man in the fire, to the ghostly writings on the wall, and finally, to Daniel’s epic visions, this is one of my favorite books of the Old Testament. I believe that it was Jesus there with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fire; and it is Jesus here at the end of Daniel’s book. Jesus has been there all along. He is here now. He will be here in the end, to usher in His kingdom and defeat the forces of darkness once and for all. Jesus is coming sooner than later. What are you doing with your time in the in-between of Jesus’ return? We are all waiting for that glorious day, but are we preparing ourselves like the precious bride of Christ? Or are we just sitting around twiddling our thumbs? Let the Lord renew your strength while you wait for the day Jesus returns. Do not waste your time here on earth: read the Good Book, spread the Gospel, do Good Work. Do not idly wait. Actively wait. The world needs you to be active more than ever before.
