Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Getting Into The Spirit

6For a child is born to us,

a son is given to us.

The government will rest on his shoulders.

And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7His government and its peace will never end.

He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity.

The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen! (Isiah 9:6-7)

Good morning Common Sense REBORN Family. It has been a while since I have gotten on here and put a piece together. I had to take some time off and reflect on where I want to go with this platform, and that is still being worked on, but, at least, for the month of December, I want to lean into what matters most: and that is celebrating the birth of Jesus, our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

The prophet Isaiah wrote the words at the start of this post about 700 years before the birth of Jesus, prophesying the coming Messiah, giving Jesus the four titles above. Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor; the words recorded in the Gospels spoken from Jesus serve as our lasting blueprint of living righteous lives. Jesus is the Mighty God in the flesh. Jesus performed miracle after miracle and there has been none since Jesus to do such incredible acts here on Earth. And Jesus proved His divinity by defeating death and rising from the grave after being hung on a cross. Jesus is our Everlasting Father; He sits at the right hand of God and looks down on His beloved children: all humanity created in God’s image. Jesus wants the best for His children and wants them to live their lives devoted to caring for one another, loving one another, and sharing the Good News to the world. And finally, Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Knowing the words of Jesus, knowing the message He preached, there is no denying that Jesus stood for nothing other than love and peace.

So, this month, let’s refocus on what is most important: honoring the birth of the Savior of the World. 2,024 years ago, God sent His son into our world, entering humanity just as we all enter this world: in the flesh of a sweet, baby boy. From His miraculous birth in a manger, Jesus would grow into the man who would forever change this world. We will begin our celebration of Jesus with this reminder from Isaiah and remember just who Jesus is.

December is a month of celebration for the coming of our Savior King. It is also a month to reflect on all that happened in the current year. This is also the month I personally love celebrating all the amazing Christian music that was released in the previous 11 months. Spotify has done a wonderful job since 2015 by calculating listeners top 100 songs, and this year, I have no disagreement with my top five. In some recent years, my children have hijacked my Spotify account so much that I get some bizarre additions into my top songs for the year, but not this year. I will share my top 10 as we get closer to marching into the New Year, but for today, I want to share a random song from my top 100. And I promise, the week of Christmas, I’ll share some seasonal tracks to get you fully into the spirit. For today, here is a great track from Elevation Worship‘s amazing album “When Wind Meets Fire“. Many of these tracks made my top 100 list, and the song below is a wonderful reminder of what a miracle the arrival of Jesus was for the history of mankind.
