Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Come Into The Light

1Praise the LORD!

Let all that I am praise the LORD!

2I will praise the LORD as long as I live.

I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.

3Don’t put your confidence in powerful people;

there is no help for you there.

4When they breathe their last, they return to the earth,

and all their plans die with them.

5But joyful are those who have the God of Jacob as their helper,

whose hope is in the LORD their God.

6He made heaven and earth,

the sea, and everything in them.

He keeps every promise forever.

7He gives justice to the oppressed

and food to the hungry.

The LORD frees the prisoners.

8The LORD opens the eyes of the blind.

The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down.

The LORD loves the godly.

9The LORD protects the foreigners among us.

He cares for the orphans and widows,

but He frustrates the plans of the wicked.

10The LORD will reign forever,

He will by your God, O Zion, throughout the generations.

Praise the LORD! (Psalm 146)

I wrapped up my reading of Psalms today. I love many of the Psalms, but as I neared the end of that book (there are 150 Psalms total), I rediscovered the Psalm above. What a holy collection of hope in these dark days. Praise the LORD! How I needed to read these words above and remind myself who is in control. And what the Creator God of this Universe truly cares about. He does not care about powerful people (verse 3). Their wicked plans will die with them (hopefully sooner than later). The author of this Psalm is unknown, but they remind us just exactly what God, the creator of Heaven and Earth, and everything in it, promises generation after generation, and those promises begin in verse seven. Justice to the oppressed. Food to the hungry. Freedom to the prisoner. Opening the eyes of the blind. Lifting up of those weighed down by depression, sin, guilt, shame. God loves those living righteous lives. God PROTECTS the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphan and the widow. And God frustrates the plans of the wicked. I cannot wait to see how God is going to frustrate the wickedness that is creeping back into the spotlight since the prince of wickedness fooled so many into voting for him. I mean if you have any doubt on which side God and Jesus are on, this Psalm is all you need to read. Or you could read the entire Bible and realize that supporting someone as mean and wicked as donald trump goes against everything preached by Jesus, the prophets, and true leaders of ancient Judaism and the birth of the Christian church. America’s future may be pointing ahead to dark days ahead but keep God and Jesus as your true north and you will not lose your way. Come back into the light and focus on what the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit want you to focus on. “You will find a Savior, gentle and lowly, waiting on the other side. He will meet you, over and over, with love and kindness in His eyes.”

  1. Great message, don’t forget your advice and ponder this passage from Romans Chapter 1313 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
