Accountability
1 I will sing of your love and justice;
to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
when will you come to me?
I will conduct the affairs of my house
with a blameless heart.
3 I will not look with approval
on anything that is vile.
I hate what faithless people do;
I will have no part in it.
4 The perverse of heart shall be far from me;
I will have nothing to do with what is evil.
5 Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret,
I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart,
I will not tolerate.
6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
that they may dwell with me;
the one whose walk is blameless
will minister to me.
7 No one who practices deceit
will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
will stand in my presence.
8 Every morning I will put to silence
all the wicked in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer
from the city of the Lord. (Psalm 101)
It has been about eleven days from my last post. One of the reasons I have been away was that I have been working a lot and have not had time to sit down and put anything together. With that busyness, I have also not had time to sit down and read my Bible, to find new scripture to share with y’all. I am very behind on the nine-month-reading plan, so much so, that we have not had a Bible Study in over a month. I cancelled our men’s Bible Study two weeks ago because I was still processing the national sin of electing donald trump back into office. Which leads to the second reason I have not posted, and that is because I have been in a very dark hole processing what lies ahead for America. But today, I spent some time in the Bible, and naturally, as spending time in the Word always does, my spirits have lifted. Not that reading the Bible has made me feel any better about the future of America, I still honestly believe this is the ushering in of the End of Days, but after reading Psalms, like the Psalm above, I feel better about my personal accountability of the life I am living.
Psalm 101 is a short psalm that puts the responsibility of faith and righteous living back to each individual. It is our responsibility to sing praises to the Lord. To live a “blameless life”. To conduct the affairs of your household with righteousness. And then this Psalm goes into personal action that shows a clear separation from those that support trump and those that do not. “I will not look with approval on anything that is vile“-trump’s entire campaign was based on vile hatred. “I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it.“-when asked what trump’s favorite Bible verse was, he could not name a single verse. He has no faith, he has just manipulated weak-minded Christians to sheepishly believe he has any understanding of the word of God. “The perverse of heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with what is evil.” trump has nominated Matt Gaetz to be Attorney General, who is currently under investigation for sexual misconduct, including having sex with a minor. “ Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret, I will put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not tolerate.” trump and his sheep do not even bother to slander their neighbors in secret, they do it from their platform. And I refuse to tolerate the sin of the pride those who voted for trump now hold believing that lifting such perverse individuals to positions of power will actually move the world in the right direction.
Instead, I will do what the rest of this Psalm states. “My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; the one whose walk is blameless will minister to me. No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence. Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the Lord.” This is the personal accountability piece we must all hold moving forward. Keep your eyes on the true faithful in the land. Dwell with those who walk with Jesus and allow them to minister to you. Do not let anyone who practices deceit dwell in your house and allow no one who speaks falsely stand in your presence. And every morning, prepare to silence all the wicked in the land.
I have not shared any content from The Holy Post lately because they were getting repetitive about their reasoning of how supporting donald trump stood against all common-sense Christian values. But I did listen to their post-election discussion to hear their thoughts and listen to what they feel we Christian warriors can do to prepare for the dark days ahead, and the discussion they had is enlightening. Perhaps the most precise analysis comes from Esau McCaulley, a Professor and public Theologian, who stated that the American public picked money over character when they cast their lot to trump. Esau rightly states that America has now made money their lord and abandoned everything Jesus taught on His time on Earth, and the Apostles attempted to teach while they stood up the Christian church. American voters chose the price of groceries and gas over electing officials whose character accurately reflect Christian values: protecting foreigners, lifting up the poor, caring for the widow and the orphan. Click the link below and hear this very important post-election discussion from grounded, humble Theologians speaking truth to life.
And if music is a way to help you cope with all that’s going on, then this new release from Maverick City Music might just give you some comfort. Jordin Sparks offers powerful, beautiful vocals to remind us of the one constant to cling to: God is still in control. “When the storm rolls in, and I can’t see out”, God is constant. He is here, ready to call the righteous home.
