Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Back to Common Sense

4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,[c]
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
(Psalms 23:4)

I was going to put another post together about the power of worship music, and finally discuss how we have reached the beauty of the poems of Psalms in my neighborhood’s reading of the Holy Bible. When I came back from my deployment to Poland, my neighbors committed to reading through the entire Bible, cover-to-cover, and we just broke through the historical portions of the Old Testament and started on Psalms this last week. Psalms are a collection of poems, or songs, mostly written by King David, and they cover a range of emotions. If you have a properly formatted Bible, they should be laid out like the verse above, in stanzas, so you can read them as a dramatic poem should be read. It is hard to see most of these put to songs, but I will share a brand-new worship song at the end of this post which brings to life the verse above in epic fashion. However, I wanted to take this time to get back on the election trail, as we are less than two-weeks away from Election Day.

Yesterday, one of my neighbors brought up the new video that is circulating around social media that purports how Kamala Harris “seemingly” tells two hecklers that they are at the wrong rally when they supposedly yelled out “Jesus is Lord”. Knowing that VP Harris comes from a very religious background, I knew that she would not make a comment like that, but being that this was the first time I had heard of this claim, I kept my mouth shut, then this morning, I did my proper research to see what this new farce was all about. Like anyone with a brain, or just a smidge of common sense, I went to Snopes.com, and, of course, they had an article about the claim. I watched the live taping of the rally, and from the recording, you cannot even discern what the hecklers are saying. In Snopes’ article, which you can read by clicking here, Fox News correspondent, Mark Meredith, “who appeared to be closer to the two protesters than Harris” was not able to hear what the protestors had said. So, even someone standing much closer to these two than VP Harris, and a member of the trump fan-base, stated that he could not even make out what these college students were shouting, debunking this foolish rumor that Harris would tell someone who shouted “Jesus is Lord” they were at the “wrong rally”.

What is loud and clear is what donald trump is saying, and I feel the coverage by Jon Stewart’s latest hosting on The Daily Show is a perfect example of the true danger that exits if this poor excuse of a man comes back into power. How any Christian can support trump is beyond me. He is vulgar, cares about nothing that a Christian should lift up, and is actively stating he is going to use his power to go after his opponents. Click the image below and hear for yourself. The only good thing about trump running for office again is that it brought Jon Stewart out of retirement to try to get Americans to pull their heads out of their donalds.

Someone recently said to me that the reason God was sending these horrific hurricanes to decimate the US was to punish America for “killing babies” and supporting the “LBGT agenda”. For one, if God were sending hurricanes at the US for being pro-choice and supporting equality for everyone, God would have been sending those storms throughout the 1990s when Roe V. Wade was in place and when the LBGT movement was really getting started. For two, the last two hurricanes slammed Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, three states that do not support pro-choice and are very harsh toward the LBGT community. If God were the punishing type (He’s not, read the New Testament), and these hurricanes were to “punish America” it is crystal clear that the states these storms are hitting are ones that are still supporting the hate-spewing, anti-Christian rhetoric that donald trump spouts out of his mouth every time he speaks.

If you have not voted yet, please get out and place your vote. This is the most crucial election we as Americans have ever faced. Everyone seems to have forgotten what happened when trump lost last time, when democracy almost died at the footsteps of the US Capitol. I have not. I have not forgotten how he rallied his crowd to storm the Capitol that resulted in the needless deaths of both law enforcement and insurrectionists over false claims of election fraud. I have not forgotten the George Floyd riots that happened on trump’s watch. I have not forgotten how neo-nazis and white supremacists came out of the shadows to rally for “their president”. I have not forgotten how the only thing trump did during his presidency is give money back to the ultra-rich and corporations. I remembered all of those things when I voted last week, and I can tell you, my vote did not go to that evil, despicable, embarrassing former president.

As mentioned at the beginning of this post, here is the new worship song by Bethel. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (which may as well be America at this point) I will fear no evil. I have a Savior, His name is Messiah, and He gives me perfect peace.
