Clean Up The Mess

11Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. (1 Thessalonians 4:11)

My dear friends and family, I will not take up much of your time on here today. I only ask that you pray for all that is in the path of the powerful Hurricane Milton. The storm is currently forecast to make a direct hit on where I grew up as a kid. Siesta Key, where one of the county’s nicest beaches exists, is currently the forecasted place Milton will make landfall. Unlike Hurricane Helene, Milton is about to attack a densely populated area. Not to take anything away from the poor people of the Big Bend area and all they have endured with three direct hits in 13 months, but Milton is about to up-end the lives of millions of people. The area Milton is approaching was just heavily affected by the storm surge from Helene and now they face an even greater threat from this surge. So please, please, please pray for those who live on the west coast of Florida.

The southeast is a mess right now. Florida is 36-hours away from facing an unprecedented storm and the clean-up from this monster is going to be extensive. I have stayed off of social media because all I see is finger pointing. The Right is saying the government has not done enough, but I have never in 43-years of living, seen the government activate both active-duty Marines and US Army soldiers to assist with recovery operations. There has been a massive response from humanitarian organizations from around the world to aid those affected by Hurricane Helene, and many of those organizations are now positioning themselves to respond to Milton, even while they are still working in areas from Florida to Virginia. But my main point is this, if you are not doing something yourself; if you are not donating to the organizations doing the work; if you are supporting the Right that wants to cut taxes for everyone (including the wealthiest in the nation) which funds government programs like FEMA; if you are not getting out and helping those around you; then keep your mouth shut and stop wasting your time posting ignorant statements on social media. Go put your hands to work. As Gabriel Price and Friends put so brilliantly in the song below: “Everyone is pointing out the spills, but no one is cleaning up the mess”. As this storm passes and the recovery begins, how are you going to help clean up this mess?
