Kingdom Work

10“Be strong, and do the work.” (1 Chronicles 28:10)

Good morning Y’all. I was perusing through the Book of 1 Chronicles and stumbled upon the line above as the Lord instructs Solomon how to build His Temple. God tells Solomon, “Be Strong, and do the work.” It was coincidence because I was already contemplating sitting down and putting a post together about doing Kingdom Work.

I have been very busy doing the work of the world. I just wrapped up working Labor Day weekend and we had a very busy weekend. We had a shooting almost every night, one that included over 100 rounds being fired as it seemed that two groups began to shoot at one another, and only by the grace of God did no one get seriously hurt (that we know of). One innocent bystander was hit in the back of the head, but, again, only by the grace of God was her injury not fatal. We responded to the report of someone being shot in the head, and I prepared for the worst, but when we got on scene, we found the victim walking around (of course, she was in shock and panic but walking and talking). There is some major beef unfolding on the Eastside that we are trying to stay in front of. The victim we had on Sunday night spoke of a “war” unfolding on the Eastside and after the warzone we had with the 100 shell casings recovered, there is definitely something brewing.

After working through Monday morning, I grabbed a quick nap and then we took the kids to the pool and then a neighbor’s house for a Labor Day Bar-b-que. We were doing a little bit of work in our social life. But through it all, what Kingdom work did I do? What Kingdom work have I done lately?

Well, for one, what is Kingdom work? Jesus lays it out pretty plainly: it is growing the church, spreading the Gospel, lifting up the poor and lowly, loving the lost and forgotten, caring for the orphan and widow, and worshipping the one true God. So, what Kingdom work have I been doing?

Unfortunately, not much, and I am working at improving that every day. I spent the morning getting caught up on my reading of the Bible, so I can be better prepared for my next Bible Study. Now, running a Bible Study is great Kingdom work, and it is one step I am taking to get myself on the right track. But to be a true Disciple, we need to be doing Kingdom work every day. It should come second nature to us. The Holy Spirit should radiate off of us, it should roll off our tongues every chance we get to share the Good News to everyone we interact with.

This weekend, my local church, Compassion Christian, is celebrating the FORTY-YEAR legacy of our lead Pastor, Cam Huxford. I have been blessed with the opportunity to be able to participate in all of this (I was supposed to be at drill with the Georgia Army National Guard, but that was cancelled yesterday due to the state running out of funding for the fiscal year-which resets in October). Now, I will be able to attend a special ceremony Saturday night, and be part of Pastor Cam’s final service on Sunday. Below is a very intimate interview between Pastor Cam and his son, Pastor Harrison, who serves as the main campus’ Pastor. Click below and hear what forty-years of doing Kingdom work sounds like.

There have been so much great new music releases in the Christian Contemporary field, but the song below really struck a chord with me this week. “The Fall” by Josh Wright is a beautiful reminder that even through our toughest times, and deepest trials, the fall we endure through our worldly lives is just preparing us to be better prepared for the Kingdom work ahead. Click the image below and celebrate the fall, because it is only after we fall that Jesus reaches out His hand and lifts us up, embraces us and says, “Be strong and DO THE WORK.”
