Are Your Affairs in Order?
1There was a famine during David’s reign that lasted for three years, so David asked the Lord about it. And the Lord said, “The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites.” (2 Samuel 21:1)
Good morning family. The verse above jumped out at me this morning when I sat down and invested some time reading the Bible. It comes from Second Samuel, a book that records the reign of King David, long considered the greatest King in Israel’s history and a king who is still revered today. King David was the second king for the Nation of Israel after Saul, who failed to follow God’s instructions over and over again. And as we see in the verse above, Saul broke a covenant the Israel’s had with the Gibeonites that was recorded in the Book of Joshua, chapter 9. The Gibeonites were one of a handful of towns that tricked Joshua into sparing their lives and making a solemn vow before God to spare them as Israel was destroying all the people in the area of modern-day Israel. When the Israelites discovered that the Gibeonites were living within the region God had told them to wipe out, Joshua tells the nation that they will honor their vow and spare these towns. In doing so, God established a covenant between these communities and His people, until Saul broke that covenant and murdered the Gibeonites, who had turned to God and obeyed what He and the Israelites asked of them.
I think this verse jumped out at me because we are currently seeing history repeat itself. The Nation of Israel continues its genocide of the Palestinian people and news comes out EVERYDAY of Israel killing more innocent lives then effectively destroying those guilty of the October 7 attack. What punishment awaits the nation of Israel from the hands of God as they continue to kill His children? Only time will tell, perhaps it will finally be the catalyst to bring the prophecies of Revelation to fruition as the Nation of Israel is finally dissolved and the world burns down, Jesus returns and calls His followers home. Are you ready for that? That day is closer today than ever before.
I am preparing my house and my family for that time. And it is not in shoring up supplies for the doomsday years that will come but investing in growing the Kingdom; raising shepherds in my home, not sheepdogs; and living my life as a true Disciple: sharing the Gospel every chance I get and ministering to all those around me, both in my work, and in my social life. The time to get your eternal affairs in order is now. The time to be a true peacemaker is here. The time to get your house to serve the Lord is this very minute. As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.
