14“So fear the Lord and serve Him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. 15But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 25:14-15)
Good morning fam. Today I finished reading through the Book of Joshua. The Book of Joshua is a powerful book that tells the story of the Israelites as they step into their destiny and begin the conquest of the Promised Land. God was using the Israelites to drive out the evil in the land of Canaan where the Bible tells us that these people sacrificed their children to their gods, held ritualistic sexual acts to bring blessings from their gods, and lived with few rules. God had reminded the Israelites in the years of their wandering through the desert that they had done nothing to earn His favor, rather He was just fulfilling His promise to their ancestor, Abraham. Through God’s promise, He was giving the Israelites the choice that Joshua so poetically writes at the end of his life: you can choose to serve the gods of other false religions, or you can choose to serve the only one true God, the Father, His Son, and the Holy Spirit.
That choice is still one we must make each and every day. From the mundane choices of looking the other way when a homeless person comes to our car window or actually giving them something to help ease their suffering for just a moment; to the big choices, like not shooting a woman in the head when she calls you for help; each day we must choose who we are going to serve: other gods, idols, ourselves, or are we going to serve the Lord. Make today a day you strive to serve the Lord, your God. There is No One Like the Lord.
