GO!
18Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
My family and I had a mini-binge marathon of The Chosen last night. We are trying to watch the series with our whole family from Season 1, all the way to the newest season. Last night we watched Episodes Four, Five, and Six of Season 1, which includes Jesus calling Peter and blessing him with a miraculous catch of fish, the Wedding at Cana, and the scene from Brandon Lake‘s “Tear Off the Roof” where Tamar and her companions lower a friend who has been paralyzed since birth through the roof for Jesus to heal. Rewatching this amazing show has allowed me to catch many of the wonderful nuggets that I completely missed the first time viewing the show. Such as the young girl and her best friend from Episode Three, who Jesus invests His time teaching about work and worship, these two call Matthew up to a roof so he can clearly see Jesus perform the miracle of healing the invalid in Zebedee’s household. Also, it was fun watching Episode Five, “The Wedding Gift”, as the message in Early Childhood at Compassion Christian Church was the miracle of Jesus turning water into “Special Wedding Drink”, a message I am not a big fan of teaching three and four-year-olds, but one that our church’s programming, unfortunately, includes in the line-up every year. I thought it comical that the overall message for the kids this month is “Jesus Brings Me Joy” and the message of the “Wedding at Cana” was that Jesus brought everyone joy when He made the best tasting “Special Wedding Drink” (insert eye roll emoji).
Closing our family filled weekend with “The Chosen” was a great relaxing end to our weekend. Despite the national distraction that I am already moving on from, we spent time soaking in the sun at Jekyll Island. We enjoyed Compassion’s first sermon in the “At The Movies” series (Pastor Cam gave an incredible message of “Getting Up” when you are knocked down by all life throws at you, inspired by the movie “Creed“). And we were able to get some things done around the house: cutting the grass and washing the cars. There is plenty to do in the light to drown out the darkness of our culture. Do not get wrapped up in current events where the most divisive President in America’s history got a taste of the medicine he’s been prescribing to the world for the last six years. We, as Christians, need to stay focused on our mission, The Great Commission, as Jesus commanded in the verses above. Go out and spread the Gospel, the Good News that, when accurately shared and understood, will drive out all the darkness and evil from this world. Come Unto Jesus and turn away from those who preach a violent rhetoric and anything contradictory to the love and mercy of Jesus Christ.
