Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Back to Reality

34After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. 35When the people recognized Jesus, the news of His arrival spread quickly throughout the whole area, and soon people were bringing all their sick to be healed. 36They begged Him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched Him were healed. (Matthew 14:34-36)

Good morning Fam! I have completed my first week back on the streets of east Savannah as a Patrol Corporal for Savannah Police Department. It was a good week, nothing too crazy, but nothing too slow. We had an officer involved shooting in the central Precinct after a robbery suspect fired at an officer when he was located after robbing an individual from his belongings. He took a round to his spine after he fired on the officer and turned to flee. He is lucky to be alive, but he will have a long road to recovery before he is able to walk again. I was riding with another Corporal, as it was my first night back, and we assisted Central Precinct by riding their calls as their whole watch had to hold the crime scene for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to come and conduct an investigation due to the officer firing at a suspect. That kept me pretty busy, as we became the only unit riding calls for half the night.

My neighbor, who works for Georgia State Patrol, had his first PIT, which is a crucible that every GSP officer must pass. He has become TIKTOK and FB famous, as citizens with front and back cameras captured the PIT and ensuing foot chase through oncoming traffic on busy I-95. This happened as I was sleeping prior to my shift on Friday, but my friend shared the news with our cul-de-sac group chat the day it happened.

And over the weekend, I volunteered Friday and Saturday night to go to the entertainment district of downtown Savannah to help with crowd control, as each precinct does on the weekend to increase security for all those visiting and enjoying the nightlife of this historic city, most completely oblivious to how dangerous Savannah can be.

Through all the more exciting calls, there were the constant flow of dealing with those who suffer from mental illness. The mental health crisis gripping America continues to rise and when I deal with these individuals, I treat them with the greatest empathy possible. Many times, I pray over them, not to the point that I am putting my hands on them and praying loud enough for them to hear. But I will stand nearby and pray to Jesus for Him to free their minds, as He did on His time here on Earth. When nothing happens, I often wonder if this is a sign that my faith is still not strong enough. There are still miracles happening all over the world right now, and while I may not have ever delivered a life-changing miracle through my own hands, which would come not by any power of my own, but from God using His power through me, I do not discredit any of the miracles that still happen today. I know that for these poor individuals trapped by the diseases in their mind, their only freedom is only available through Jesus, and they may not experience true freedom until they leave this side of eternity. But the Healer has already been here. He demonstrated His divinity during His physical time here on Earth, and we have that verified through the eye-witness accounts of the Gospels, from the earliest Fathers of the Christian Church, and the first generations of the Church leaders who helped shape the world we live in today.

Whether we can channel the Holy Spirit to perform miracles through our own hands or not, our mission here on Earth is of the greatest importance, and that is to bring the Good News to the whole world around us. Before you worry about performing miracles, focus on spreading the Gospel and bringing the truth of all God did through His Son, Jesus. Until His glorious return, which we grow closer to with the rising of the sun every day, the world we live in will continue to be broken and filled with broken people. We may not be able to heal those broken people, but we can lead them to the Healer and help them have a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Last Friday, the Christian Music World dropped a deluge of new music. Of noteworthy mention is the live recording from Brandon Lake‘s “Tear the Roof Off” finale show in his hometown of Charleston, SC. This album is superb and includes a handful of surprise guest performances. You can listen to it by clicking here. But for today, I want to share a wonderful cover of an old favorite that relates to the message above. We can bring the world healing, by bringing the world to have that life-changing relationship with Jesus. We can do it “With a Little Help From My Friends”. My friends, are you ready to do the Good Work asked of us to do by the Healer, and help lead this broken world to the feet of Jesus?
