Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Shifting Focus Part 1

10Then the Lord said to Moses, 11“Go back to Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, and tell him to let the people of Israel leave his country.”

12“But Lord!” Moses objected. “My own people won’t listen to me anymore. How can I expect Pharaoh to listen? I’m such a clumsy speaker!” (Exodus 6:10-12)

Happy Monday Y’all. I hope you had a great weekend and were able to find ways to beat the heat. It’s already looking like it is going to be scorcher of a summer down here in the Savannah area. Of course, that comes to no surprise for anyone paying attention to scientists’ warnings about global warming for the last three decades. I miss the cool summers of my youth, and wish the world would rally behind green energy, or what I mean to say is, I wish AMERICA would rally behind green energy, and get with the times. Yesterday marked one month since returning to the States from Poland, and the only reason I am enjoying my time here is my family is here. Poland was such a better country than America, and I will share the many reasons why this week as I shift my focus from vacation mode to return-to-work mode. For any die-hard, patriotic fans of this page, if the next few days of posts offend you, good. America needs to wake up and shift their focus off of what political party you vote for, to fixing the problems in this broken country! It is not like this in Europe. And we will get to that this week. From supporting renewable energy, to the lack of gun violence, to truly Christian nations, Europe is light-years ahead of the USA.

I realize I understand what Moses felt when he tried to tell the Israelites what God was asking them to do. God was preparing the Israelites to break away from their slavery in Egypt, and Moses was not met with any support. Of course, at this time of Israel’s existence, they had seen little, to no, proof of God’s existence. All they had were the stories passed down over four hundred generations of a mysterious God that had led them to Egypt through the twelve sons of Jacob. But those stories fell silent for over four hundred years, and as any reader of Exodus sees, the Israelites are burdened by the weight of oppression in Egypt. Then comes Moses, who was raised as Pharoah’s brother, then flees his royal appointment after killing an Egyptian, and becomes a shepherd for some time. Then God answers the plea of the Hebrews and sends Moses and Aaron to deliver them. Despite the Hebrews calling for rescue, they reject what Moses tells them because after Moses approaches Pharoah for the release of the Hebrew slaves, Pharoah makes their workload even harsher. Rescue does not seem a reality, and Moses must have, at that point, appeared like a crazy old man. But the Hebrews would get the signs they asked for of their God’s existence. They would get miracles, plagues, frogs, and much more to prove that the “Great I am” was indeed the God they were praying for: Yahweh.

And here we are, some 3,400 plus years after the events of Exodus. All recorded by Moses himself, translated billions of times throughout history, meticulously transcribed to preserve the accuracy of the texts, texts telling the world of the existence of the God of Israel, who would reveal Himself to be the God of All People through His Son Jesus Christ. We are God’s most prized creation, yet we are doing everything possible to destroy all of His creation. Well, not every Christian, just the American Christians. And to show you how, we’ll start with that tomorrow, when we look at what Poland does to preserve God’s creation, versus how America destroys God’s work. Maybe you will all learn something and shift your focus, unlike how the Hebrews initially treated Moses.
