Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Start the Party Part 1

10Later, Matthew invited Jesus and His disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. (Matthew 9:10)

Kid’s Camp! Today we started our weeklong adventure volunteering at Compassion Christian‘s “Kid’s Camp“. The Monday-Friday camp for Kindergarten-Fifth Grade age students is a huge event for our church every year. This summer, they had a record 462 kids register. I volunteered last year from Wednesday through Friday and had such a good time, I signed up for the entire week this go round. Mrs. Z and I are running one of the “Laser Tag” rooms. Yesterday, the Z family spent several hours decorating and setting up the room and most of the volunteers are raving about it. We had a successful first day, running nine groups of 12-13 kids through the laser tag event. Luckily, for day one, we only had one injury after two kids crashed into each other running at full speed. We have more inflatable barriers on the way from Amazon.com to create more spaces for the kids to hide behind and hopefully slow them down.

I asked SGZ2, who is seven, and the only one of our kids old enough to participate in Kid’s Camp, what he learned in his small group, and he was able to tell me the story from the verse above, when Matthew invited Jesus and His disciples to his home to “Start the Party”. This is the theme for camp this year, “Start the Party”, and it seems like the church is attempting to teach the kids to start a party to invite many guests, have fun, and tell everyone about Jesus! What a great message! It is summertime, and no better time to invite friends over, start a party, and tell them about the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. We will be doing such in two days when we have even more guys in attendance for our second Bible Study in our neighborhood. I have a decent group of men committed to the Common Sense REBORN: Deployed challenge of reading the entire Holy Bible in nine-months. This week we will be discussing the first forty-five chapters of Genesis.

What ways can you “Start a Party” for Jesus this summer? Need some ideas? Have some ideas? Just let me know in the comment section below. And if you need some music to help entertain your gathering, then the new album from Crowder has many great ones, including the catchy single below. All week long, I will be sharing the most upbeat, party-favorite releases from last Friday. God Bless and I will be back tomorrow to recap Camp Day 2!
