Common Sense REBORN Devotion

That Great Commission

18Jesus came and told His disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Blessed Sunday Fam! Today we are going to wrap up our after Easter devotions with a reminder of The Great Commission Jesus bestowed on His Disciples. While we have only spent a few days looking at the after Easter events in the Gospels, a lot has happened in the “in-between” that I alluded to in my last post. Before Jesus ascends to Heaven, after spending the previous forty days with the Disciples, Jesus gives them the command above, which is known as The Great Commission.

The original 11 Disciples will soon become Apostles. Disciple means pupil, while the term Apostle means “one sent on a mission”(according to Merriam-Webster). The Disciples had spent the last three years following and learning from Jesus. Now, He gives them the mission to “make disciples out of all nations”, meaning they are to teach the Gospel the entire world over. And as we have studied in years past on this blog, the Apostles did their part to plant the seeds of the Christian faith that has since spread around much of the world. The Great Commission was not just meant for the original 11 Disciples. It is meant for all of us as followers of Christ. It is our mission to continue to share the Gospel and baptize followers in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

If you have a hard time sharing your faith, maybe struggle when you are challenged as to why you believe a Book written almost 2,000 years ago (and much older for the texts of the Old Testament). Well, starting tomorrow, I will be sharing Cold Case Christianity. This amazing work by former atheist and cold-case detective, J. Warner Wallace, will equip you with mighty tools for your detective “call-out bag”. These tools will, hopefully, open your eyes and enable you to have stronger ways to reach any challenging unbeliever and help bring them to the truth of Jesus Christ.

I will leave you today with the new worship album from Charity Gayle. Her powerful voice is a beautiful way to bring your Sunday evening to a close. Click here to enjoy her entire album. Click the image below to see my favorite track from the set.
