Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Resurrection Sunday

1Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to visit the tomb.

2Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an Angel of the Lord came down from Heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. (Matthew 28:1-4)

Happy Resurrection Day! Today’s the day the world comes to celebrate the empty tomb. Jesus is risen. Jesus is alive!

We have spent the last seven days looking at all the events that transpired during Holy Week. Beginning last week with Palm Sunday, studying all Jesus did in Jerusalem Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The Last Supper and the washing of the Disciples’ feet on Thursday night. The brutality of Good Friday. The silence of Saturday.

Well, that silence was shattered as the sun rose on Sunday morning, because the Son rose on Sunday morning!

Empty hearts went to sleep Saturday night. The Disciples and the followers of Jesus had their hope broken at Calvary. Their Savior was buried in a tomb. They awoke that first Easter morning with an emptiness in their hearts. The women went to the tomb to pay their respects, fully prepared to pour their agony out over the dead body of Jesus Christ. But their emptiness was soon to be rolled away, when they saw the tomb, because it was there they discovered stone was rolled away. Angels awaited them, to remind them of the Good News of Jesus’ promise: He was alive, and the only thing left empty was the grave!

There are a lot of people in the world that feel that sense of emptiness in their lives today. Perhaps you are one of them. Perhaps you have a gigantic hole in your heart that you just can not fathom ever being filled. Well, today is that powerful reminder that the love of Jesus knows no limits. It is wider, longer, deeper, and higher than you can ever measure. Jesus loved you so much that He suffered a horrific death, defeated the grave, and rose to sit at the right seat of God, our Father. He did that all for YOU. He sits there, anxiously awaiting the day when you come home to Him. He has prepared a room for you in His Father’s house. Let the love of Jesus Christ fill your empty heart today. Let the love of Jesus Christ heal any hurt you feel today. Let the love of Jesus Christ lift you from death to life today. Let the love of Jesus Christ be your joy and peace on this Resurrection Sunday!

I wish you all a Blessed Easter. I am praying for you all. Praying for peace, love, and joy as we celebrate our Savior’s mighty victory over death. Lift up the miracle of Jesus Christ high. Spend time reading the final chapters of each Gospel, and be ready for Monday, because tomorrow, I have a brand new project we will start looking at. As beautiful as Easter Sunday is, Monday brings a new beginning, and I can not wait to share that with you tomorrow!
