Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Hosanna! Hosanna!

12The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city. A large crowd of Passover visitors 13took palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They shouted,

“Hosanna! Hosanna!

Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!

Hail to the King of Israel!” (John 13:12-13)

Blessed Palm Sunday family! Today marks the celebration in the Christian faith of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem and begins the eight-day remembrance of Holy Week. Beginning today, I will be sharing the significance of each day as we march toward Easter Sunday. This is the most powerful week of commemoration for all that Jesus did in His final days before going to the cross, suffering a horrific death, defeating the grave, and rolling the stone away to set us all free, for all eternity.

It starts with His pilgrimage into Jerusalem and the crowd laying down palm branches and their garments to give Jesus a royal procession into the city. Despite the Pharisees, Sadducees, and the majority of the “religious elite” denying Jesus was who He said and proved He is, the crowd knew. The crowd of the broken and desperate rushed to see their King and give all they had to welcome Jesus in grand fashion. Jesus humbly entered the capitol of Israel, riding a lowly donkey, fulfilling the prophecy written by the prophet Zechariah, who wrote the following some 500 years earlier:

Rejoice, O people of Zion!

Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem!

Look, your King is coming to you.

He is righteous and victorious,

yet he is humble, riding on a donkey-

riding on a donkey’s colt. (Zechariah 9:9)

God had directed His Son into the heart of Israel to begin placing the final pieces of the puzzle together in God’s grand scheme to save all of mankind. Thousands of years speaking to the Israelites and lifting them up to glorify His name, now God guided Jesus into Jerusalem to rock the foundation of their flimsy faith for the final time. Some of the greatest lessons Jesus taught came during their Passover week (our Holy Week). I can not wait to share my favorite moments with you in the next few days! But for today, I leave you with this prayer: praise God for His grand design to thrust Jesus into the world at just the right time to save humanity, and for giving us a place in the amazing story of our salvation. Shall we always shout:

Hosanna! Hosanna! Glory to God in the Highest!

Meredith Andrews released a wonderful new album on Friday. The below single is the title track and graces us with powerful lyrics to remind us “to dance like David into victory”. Click the image below and be blessed!
