Christmas Eve
10When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! 11They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2:10-11)
Good morning family. Today I want to jump over to Matthew Chapter Two and look at our three Wise Men from the East. It is believed these Wise Men came to find Jesus when he was was one or two years old, which is why Matthew wrote they entered the house and saw “the child”, as opposed to writing “they saw the baby”. The world has popularized the idea that these three were there on the first Christmas by our nativity scenes for decades now. But on that original night when Jesus was born, the only extra guests might have been the Shepherds, who rushed out to spread word that the Messiah had been born.
The act of these Wise Men presenting gifts to Jesus is one of the main reasons we now give each other presents on Christmas Day. Ranging from small tokens of appreciation, to elaborate, expensive, over-the-top shiny things, America loves to go all out for Christmas. As we prepare to wake up tomorrow morning and start tearing wrapping paper off, please take some time to lift up the greatest gift of all: the Savior of the World, born in a manger.
Keeping with the theme for the day (this was not even planned), my second favorite remix from Tommee Profitt’s epic concert event is: We Three Kings. Colton Dixon and Hollyn team up to provide an indescribable harmony that you just have to hear to experience. Click below to listen to the song. Click this link if you have still not watched this concert in full. It’s a great soundtrack to have playing during this holiday season.
