Trying
6Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?”
7“I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” (John 5:6-7)
While I have always loved this story of Jesus healing the man by the pool of Bethesda, when I read it nowadays, I can not help but think of two powerful visuals that come to mind.
The first is the sermon below from Pastor Steven Furtick. While Pastor Furtick has preached on this story several times, this classic from four years ago still gets me fired up. Click the image below and hear for yourself.
The second visual I get when reading this story now is the scene where Jesus heals the man in Season 2 of The Chosen. Episode 4, “A Perfect Opportunity” brings the back-story for the man at the pool. It’s truly a beautiful piece of cinematography and if you have time, you should watch it. As well as the entire three seasons of The Chosen. I can not post the episode here, but you can click any of the links above to watch from the Chosen’s website or app. If you don’t believe me why this is such a great series to watch, here is Brandon Lake explaining why he loves the show.
