Common Sense REBORN Devotion

Beauty

1In the beginning the Word already existed.

The Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

2He existed in the beginning with God.

3God created everything through him,

and nothing was created except through him.

4The Word gave life to everything that was created,

and his life brought light to everyone.

5The light shines in the darkness,

and the darkness can never extinguish it. (John 1:1-5, The Life Application Bible)

I have reached the Gospel of John in my 9-month reading plan. As much as I love the Gospel of Luke, there is something about John’s writing. It is beautiful. It is poetic. It is powerful. The most famous verse of the Bible comes from this specific Gospel. But even before I get to John 3:16, this beloved Disciple/Apostle/Saint opens with the greatest introduction of Jesus written in history. And verse 1:5 is full of Holy Ghost power: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”

Whew. What powerful words! Can. Never. It ain’t ever gonna happen. No matter what the enemy throws at Jesus, He always wins! So why do we keep letting the devil beat us? Why do we let the devil discourage us? Why do we let the devil into our thoughts, our hearts, our ambitions? Why do we let the devil drag us down? We’re the light. We’re the light in this dark world. We need to be shining that light from the top of a hill!

This is a big month for us as Christians. This is the month we celebrate the Miracle in the Manger, the birth of our King. I pray you all have many opportunities to bless others around you, to let your light shine bright through the darkness of all that’s going on around the world, for all those around you to see the beauty of that Holy Night and what it did to change the course of humanity. Be bold this Christmas season. Let’s turn the lights on and chase the devil back into the shadows.

I was going to start sharing nothing but Christmas music, but I think I will begin that in my next post. This new single from Passion featuring Cody Carnes is too beautiful not to highlight. Click below to hear for yourself. I wish you all a blessed week!
