Thanksgiving

34Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!

His faithful love endures forever. (1 Chronicles 16:34, The Life Application Bible)

Happy Thanksgiving family! I pray you all spend time with friends and family this holiday weekend. Please pray for all the Americans away from their loved ones today. There are many brave men and women still holding the line far from home. Many of them in not so great conditions, whether stuck at sea in the Mediterranean, or in the deserts of North Africa and Syria, or in the freezing cold on the Polish/Ukraine border.

With a world at war, we have much to be thankful for back in America. We are able to travel freely throughout our country to spend the day with loved ones. All the holiday staples are available to us, expensive or not. We are able to gather, eat, and be joyful in the relative peace of our great country.

I was able to participate in a Turkey Trot this morning, led by the 3rd Infantry Division’s Chief of Staff. He jokingly reminded us that today was just a regular Thursday for the Polish (so we would be mindful of traffic) and shared a story where he had overheard a Lieutenant Colonel explaining to a young soldier that the Polish did not celebrate this strictly American holiday. So take a moment today to reflect on all we have to be thankful as Americans.

Most importantly, spend time in reflection on all we have to be thankful for as children of a loving and gracious God. Despite all our shortcomings, mistakes, and messes, our Heavenly Father has a place set at the table with Him. He welcomes us to His house no matter how far we may have strayed, no matter how long we have gone without appreciating His goodness, love, and mercy. So give thanks to the Lord today. Bless those bountiful feasts, and praise the name of Jesus, for His love endures forever.
